Maurice the Giant Mothwarbler

A legendary, wing-flapping forest myth who is very real, very large, and very bad news for frogs.

Maurice the Giant Mothwarbler

Maurice the Giant Mothwarbler is a rarely seen but well-known forest legend in the Diplodicus & Sealion series. Feared by Mole, dreaded by Rabbit, and spoken of in hushed tones, Maurice is said to appear only when something in the forest has gone terribly wrong — usually involving frogs.

Despite his terrifying reputation, Maurice is known personally by Diplodicus & Sealion, who treat his arrival as a familiar and even welcome event. His sudden appearances tend to bring swift and dramatic conclusions to Mole and Rabbit’s more ambitious schemes.

Appearance

Maurice is a very large bird like creature, with purple feathers, a red crest on his head, orange legs and a yellow beak.

Personality

Maurice is imposing, unpredictable, and immensely powerful. He inspires absolute terror in Mole and Rabbit, while remaining oddly neutral toward Diplodicus & Sealion. Whether he is aggressive or simply misunderstood is unclear, but his intolerance for frogs is very well known.

Role

Maurice’s role in the stories is that of a legendary wild card — a mythical force of nature whose arrival instantly escalates events and usually spells disaster for anyone foolish enough to dismiss him as a myth.

Maurice is known to Diplodicus & Sealion, who appear comfortable in his presence. Mole firmly believes he does not exist (despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary), while Rabbit is utterly convinced he is real and imminently dangerous.
